Dental caries, gum diseases, malocclusion of teeth and oral cancers are major health problems in the State, prevalent even in the socio-economically well urban areas. Although all of these may not be life-threatening, they can cause lots of morbidity, psychological stress and its treatment is expensive. Premature loss of important oral tissues in children and increase trends of cases of Oral cancer in adults are the major concerns of the health provider. Morbidity and mortality rate resulting from these diseases can to a large extent be reduced, controlled and prevented through public education and motivation, setting up of proper infrastructure with additional manpower and mass awareness campaign programme at school levels.
