NATIONAL VECTOR BORNE DISEASE CONTROL PROGRAMME (NVBDCP)
The National Vector Borne Disease Control Program (NVBDCP) covers 6 (six) Vector Borne Diseases namely, Malaria, Japanese Encephalitis, Dengue , Kala-azar , Chikungunya & Filariasis. Earlier Malaria was endemic in all Eleven (11) districts but since 2018 endemicity has reduced. Three districts viz Longleng, Phek & Mokokchung reported Nil Malaria cases in 2019 and in the year 2020 , Zero malaria case have been reported from 5 districts i.e Kohima , Kiphire, Longleng, Mokokchung, and Zunheboto .
Japanese Encephalitis & Dengue are found in some part of districts but in the year 2020 , zero Japanese Encephalitis cases have been reported and only one Dengue positive case have been reported .
NATIONAL FRAMEWORK FOR MALARIA ELIMINATION IN INDIA (2016–2030)
National Framework for Malaria Elimination in India (NFME) 2016- 2030 was launched by Hon’ble Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare Minister, Shri J.P. Nadda Govt of India in February, 2016 and accordingly it was launched on 1st June 2017 at our State and respectively in all the districts
Vision
- Eliminate malaria nationally and contribute to improved health, quality of life and alleviation of poverty.
Goals
- Eliminate malaria (zero indigenous cases) throughout the entire country by 2030; and
- Maintain malaria free status in areas where malaria transmission has been interrupted and prevent re-introduction of
Performance of NVBDCP
- As compared to 2019 and 2020 Malaria cases has declined by 40% , Dengue cases by 83.3% & Japanese Encephalitis declined by 100%.
- The state of Nagaland is one of the top contenders in the race towards malaria elimination in the Northeast region. Sustained efforts by the programme/department and continued use of correct interventions in the right time will help make this goal achievable.
- The programme has undertaken various IEC/BCC activities. Awareness and Health camps on Vector Borne Diseases, Inter personal communication and Focus Group Discussions on VBDs with the community are often conducted as part of behavioral change communication.
- The Directorate of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme , Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Govt of India has supplied 845532 LLINS , to Nagaland & the distribution to the beneficiaries have started by the State Vector Borne Disease Control Programme free of cost .
